Cavren — Who sees what, and when
What Cavren management, operators, helpers and your family can see about you: outside an alarm, during an SOS and afterwards.
Cavren is a safety support tool, not an emergency service.
Key Features
SOS Alert — One tap, shake, the volume buttons or the home-screen widget (both Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or a paired smartwatch (Wear OS or Apple Watch) triggers SOS. Audio and video recording starts immediately on-device. Family members get push notifications, and so do emergency contacts who have Cavren themselves — that is how they are reached, so invite them before you need them. Cavren sends no SMS. Cavren helpers are searched in expanding waves up to 5,000 km. When a helper receives the alert, audio is heard immediately; video is blurred until the helper accepts. A direct 112 call button is visible from the start. The victim screen stays open and the helper search never stops until the incident is resolved.
Live Location Sharing — Share your real-time location with family members. See everyone on a private family map.
Crash & Fall Detection — Automatic detection of crashes (from 5 km/h, also on a bicycle or e-scooter), falls, and man-down situations. Alerts are sent if you can't respond. Crash detection runs in the background on Android and iPhone, also with the screen off; for fall and man-down detection that is only guaranteed on Android (on iPhone, iOS can pause them in the background).
Evidence Recording — Recordings are captured on-device and uploaded when possible; server-side recording is used when available. Evidence is encrypted in transit and stored securely. Recording continues in the background even when the screen is off (on iPhone only the audio continues in the background, because iOS does not allow filming there).
Dictaphone — Evidence without an alarm: one tap records audio, two taps audio and video. On iPhone only the sound continues in the background; the widget, Quick Settings tile, lock-screen notification and disguise are Android only.
Walkie-Talkie & Blackout mode — Push-to-talk voice messages to family, groups and helpers. Without internet, Blackout mode relays your SOS via nearby Cavren phones. On iPhone the walkie-talkie works without internet only in Blackout mode.
In the car — SOS from the Android Auto screen; CarPlay follows later.
Groups — Create groups where members voluntarily share their location with each other. Each person controls their own sharing.
Geofence Zones — Get notified when family members enter or leave designated safe zones.
Hardware SOS — Shake your phone, press the volume buttons (Android only; on iPhone use Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or use a connected smartwatch (Wear OS or Apple Watch) to trigger SOS without touching the screen. On Android shake also works with the screen off and the phone locked; on iPhone, iOS can stop shake detection in the background.
Platforms — Android on Google Play; iPhone in open testing via TestFlight, the App Store follows. Some features differ per platform, as noted above.
Why Cavren?
Privacy by Design — Chat messages are end-to-end encrypted and deleted from the cloud relay immediately after delivery. Evidence is encrypted in transit and stored securely. Primary data storage is in the EU. Some third-party processors may operate globally under contractual safeguards (GDPR Article 46).
50 Languages — All 24 official EU languages plus 26 world languages.
No Tracking Without Consent — Location sharing is opt-in. Parents and guardians can enable safety controls for minors where legally permitted. Anti-stalkerware by design.
Free Core Features — SOS alerts, family location sharing, and community reporting are free. Premium adds extended features.
Designed to Fail Safe — Cavren is built to work even when connectivity or nearby responders are limited. Offline fallback to 112, admin escalation, and graceful degradation are built in.
Purpose — How Cavren Actually Works (full page )
Feature → Reality check: Cavren helps coordinate help and preserve evidence. It cannot guarantee responders or replace emergency services. During any active SOS, a direct 112 call button is visible from the start — one tap connects you to emergency services. The victim screen stays open and the helper search runs continuously in expanding waves until the incident is resolved. Every SOS is forwarded to the Cavren admin team, so there is always at least one remote person monitoring the situation.
Personal Safety Scenarios
Walking home alone: SOS with single tap, shake gesture, volume buttons (Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or connected smartwatch. Audio/video recording starts immediately on-device at SOS activation — before any helper responds. Recordings are captured on-device and uploaded when possible; server-side recording is used when available. Family members receive a push notification, and so do emergency contacts who have Cavren themselves (Cavren sends no SMS). Helpers searched by distance: physical (<5 km, can arrive) and remote (5–250 km, support via live call). When a helper receives the alert, audio is heard immediately; video is blurred until the helper accepts. Requires mobile data or WiFi.
Taxi/rideshare safety: Shake-to-SOS or volume button SOS (Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut) — triggers alert without touching the screen. Evidence recording on-device, uploaded when possible. 112 call button visible throughout.
Coercion at ATM (duress PIN): Entering the wrong PIN 3 times triggers silent escalation. The app appears to cancel normally — attacker sees nothing. Behind the scenes: 250 km national search for additional helpers, admin notified with critical urgency, incident enters duress state (only admin can resolve). Recording continues silently.
Domestic situation: App is typically installed for family safety (children). SOS via shake, volume buttons (Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or smartwatch — no screen interaction needed. Duress PIN: if forced to cancel, silent escalation continues. Chat messages are ephemeral: encrypted SQLite local storage, relay queue deleted immediately after delivery. No chat history on servers.
Stalkerware suspicion: All location sharing is bidirectional and requires mutual consent. No stealth tracking mode. Anti-stalkerware by design. Groups: each member controls START/STOP sharing.
Teenager needs help: Silent SOS via shake, volume buttons (Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or smartwatch. Parents receive push notification with live location. Check-in call: undismissable alarm at maximum volume. All critical notifications (SOS, check-in, man-down) bypass Do Not Disturb mode.
Crash/fall detection: Accelerometer-based automatic detection (crash in the background on Android and iPhone; fall and man-down in the background only guaranteed on Android). 15-second countdown — if no cancellation, SOS activates automatically. Man-down: extended inactivity triggers alert (default 60 seconds, configurable to 30 or 90). Evidence recording starts immediately on-device. Not a medical device.
Jogging alone: Live tracking on family map. Fall detection during movement. Geofence alerts for safe zones. 112 call button visible during SOS.
Public transport harassment: SOS via tap, shake, volume buttons (Android only; on iPhone: Back Tap, the Action button or a Siri shortcut), or smartwatch — no speaking required. Discreet on-device recording. Family and helpers notified with live location.
How Helpers Experience an SOS
Audio is heard immediately — the helper hears the victim's surroundings from the moment the alert appears.
Video is visible but blurred — the livestream feed is shown with a blur overlay until the helper accepts.
After accepting: blur is removed, full livestream visible, route to victim on map, 112 call button available.
Evidence & Recording
On-device recording — audio/video recorded directly on the phone, continues in background even with screen off (on iPhone only the audio continues in the background).
Server-side recording — when available, a parallel server-side recording captures the livestream independently.
Encryption — evidence is encrypted in transit. Chat messages use E2E encryption, deleted from cloud after delivery.
Retention — recordings stored up to 90 days after incident (30 days active + 60 days archive), then automatically deleted unless you keep them or a legal hold applies.
What Cavren is NOT
Not an emergency service. Does not dispatch police, fire, or medical. Always call 112 for immediate danger.
Not guaranteed responders. Helper availability depends on nearby opted-in users. Zero helpers may be available.
Not a medical device. Detection uses phone accelerometer. Cannot diagnose injuries or medical conditions.
Not a tracking tool. All location sharing is opt-in with mutual consent. Anti-stalkerware by design.
Not a replacement for safety equipment. Phone-based, not a harness, gas detector, or safety barrier.
Not a legal guarantee. Evidence recordings are best-effort. Upload depends on connectivity. Server-side recording is a backup, not a guarantee.
Designed to Fail Safe
No helpers nearby? Wave escalation: 250 km → 500 km → 1,000 km → 2,000 km → 5,000 km (all of Europe). Rechecks every 5 minutes after max radius. Never stops until resolved. Single Helper Protocol: after 2 minutes with only 1 accepted helper, both victim and helper receive a recommendation to call 112. Every SOS forwarded to admin — always at least one remote monitor.
Offline? Evidence recorded on-device, queued for upload. Last known location shared. Chat stored locally in SQLite.
Attacker forces cancellation? Duress PIN (3 wrong attempts) → silent escalation. App appears cancelled but alert continues with 250 km national helper search.
User unresponsive? Crash, fall, man-down detection auto-trigger SOS after countdown. No interaction required.
False alarm prevention: Hardware triggers include 15-second countdown. Repeated false alarms may result in temporary or permanent suspension.
Admin monitoring: Every SOS forwarded to admin immediately. Duress: repeated escalation every 15 min, admin must manually resolve. Active incidents >30 min: admin escalation. 24h unresolved: critical notification. Admin reviews evidence, can contact emergency services on victim's behalf.
112 always one tap away: Animated 112 button permanently visible during SOS. If offline, full-screen 112 prompt immediately. Cavren never dials 112 automatically (false calls carry legal penalties up to €30,000).
